DROPS Air Yarn – Baby Alpaca & Merino Wool Blow Yarn

DROPS Air is a premium aran / worsted weight blow yarn made from a luxurious blend of baby alpaca and merino wool, perfect for knitting sweaters, cardigans, scarves, hats, and warm yet lightweight garments. This soft and breathable alpaca merino knitting yarn features an innovative blow yarn construction, where the fibers are blown into a tubular structure instead of being traditionally spun, creating an exceptionally airy and lofty texture. Compared to conventional aran and worsted weight yarns, DROPS Air produces garments that are approximately 30–35% lighter, warm, completely itch-free, and comfortable to wear directly against the skin.

DROPS Air is classified as an aran / worsted weight yarn and is considered a medium-thick yarn, making it highly versatile for a wide range of knitting projects. Each ball weighs 50 grams and contains approximately 150 meters of yarn, offering excellent meterage for lightweight sweaters and accessories. The recommended needle size for DROPS Air is 5 mm, with a knitting tension of 17 stitches by 22 rows over 10 x 10 cm, allowing for smooth, even stitches and beautiful stitch definition.

Thanks to its airy structure, DROPS Air provides excellent insulation while remaining breathable and flexible. The blend of baby alpaca and merino wool gives the yarn natural warmth, softness, and elasticity, while the added polyamide improves durability and helps the yarn retain its shape over time. This yarn works especially well for textured knitting, cable patterns, and modern garment designs where volume without weight is desired.

The fiber content consists of 65% alpaca, 28% polyamide, and 7% wool. DROPS Air is not superwash treated, is feltable, and should be hand washed at a maximum temperature of 30°C and dried flat to preserve its unique structure and softness.

DROPS Air is made in Peru and the EU using high-quality alpaca and wool sourced from South America, with polyamide produced in Germany, ensuring consistent quality and responsible production.
